CINEMATOGRAPHER
Emre Erkmen based in Berlin, was born in Istanbul, studied cinematography at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb). During his senior year, he worked on his first feature film “2 Girls” by Kutlug Ataman and received Best Cinematographer Award at Antalya Film Festival.
He became known with international award winning films, such as “Men on the Bridge” by Asli Özge, which premiered at Locarno and Toronto Film Festivals, “Lifelong” and “All of a Sudden”, which both screened at Berlinales Panaroma Section and distributed in many countries, bringing Erkmen best Cinematographer Award at Istanbul Film Festival.
In 2019 the feature film “A Tale of Three Sisters,” by Emin Alper screened at Berlinale Competition and received Best Balkan Film Award and Best Cinematographer Award by the Association of Turkish Film Critics.
Since 2005 Erkmen has been responsible for more than 25 feature films, gaining experience in many countries from Scotland to Africa collaborating with many directors such as Hany Abu-Assad, Hiner Saleem, John Malkovic, Peter Keglevic, Zeki Demirkubuz, Eric Nazarian.
He has also worked on series, various documentaries, art-videos including “Ashura” by Köken Ergun which is awarded at Berlinale Shorts Competition, 6-part series “Dunkelstadt” shot in Belgium, shown at Berlinale Series Market.
His latest productions, which will be released in late 2023, include the feature film “Black Box” by Asli Özge, co-produced by Dardenne Brothers and 6-part series “Arayis/ The Search” by Emin Alper for Disney+.
