BENJAMIN HEISENBERG

DIRECTOR

Benjamin Heisenberg studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and upon graduation, received the Debutant Award. He then worked on several short and experimental films, which led to his first narrative short film and finally to his decision to study directing at the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF).

Heisenberg's debut film “Schläfer” premiered in Cannes in the Un Certain Regard series, and was awarded the First Steps Award and the Max Ophüls Prize, among others. In 2010, his film “Der Räuber” was shown in competition at the Berlinale, and Heisenberg received both the Bavarian Film Award for Best Young Director and the Austrian Film Award for Best Director.

In addition to his work as a director and writer, Heisenberg has exhibited video works, installations, and drawings in galleries and museums. He has received, among other awards, the Leonard and Ida Wolf Memorial Prize (in 1999) and the City of Munich's Förderpreis für Bildende Kunst (in 2001). In 2012, he won the competition for an art-on-construction work for the NS Documentation Center in Munich.

Together with Christoph Hochhäusler and Sebastian Kutzli, Heisenberg founded the film magazine “Revolver” in 1998 and is still co-editor of the magazine today.

Lukusch

Benjamin Heisenberg's first novel has now been published by C.H.Beck.
It tells the intangible story of the young chess talent Anton Lukusch and his gruff sidekick Igor.

Der Prank

Benjamin Heisenberg is currently shooting his new feature film, a children's movie, with Kundschafter Filmproduktion. Peer Klehmet wrote the screenplay.
"The Prank" is about twelve-year-old Lucas, whose chaotic family takes in Chinese guest student Xi Zhou. An April Fool's joke by the guest gets completely out of hand and catapults the family out of their daily routine. A hilarious screwball comedy unfolds.
