KILIAN RIEDHOF

DIRECTOR

Kilian Riedhof started his career as a director and screenwriter at the Hamburg Media School. One of his first major successes was the critically acclaimed TV drama “Homevideo,” for which he received numerous awards, including the German Television Award in 2011 and the Grimme Award in 2012.

In his work, Kilian Riedhof repeatedly addresses critical social and political issues. His TV two-parter “Der Fall Barschel,” starring Alexander Fehling and Fabian Hinrichs, delved into the still-unsolved death of politician Uwe Barschel. This film received several prestigious nominations and awards, including the Bernd Burgemeister Award at the Munich Film Festival in 2011 and the German Television Award in 2012.

In 2018, he filmed the two-parter drama “Gladbeck,” based on true events about the 1988 hostage crisis. “Gladbeck” (“54 Hours”) was a national and international success, winning three German Television Awards (Best Multi-part, Best Leading Actor and Best Editing), the Golden Bird Prize in Seoul, and the German Acting Award for Best Ensemble. It was also the only non-English feature nominated for the 2019 British BAFTA TV Award.

In 2020 and 2021, Riedhof shot two new feature projects: “Vous n'aurez pas ma haine,” a German-French-Belgian co-production based on the non-fiction book of the same name by journalist Antoine Leiris, who lost his wife in the Bataclan attack in Paris. This film was produced by Komplizen Film and Haut et Court, and the screenplay adaptation has won the German Screenplay Award in 2020. The film had its world premiere at the Locarno International Film Festival.

Riedhof also directed “Stella. A Life.”, based on the life story of the Jewish Nazi informant Stella Goldschlag, starring Paula Beer.
