Tim Ellrich
DIRECTOR
Tim Ellrich is an award-winning director and writer. He first graduated from the University of Vienna with a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Theatre, Film and Media Science and then studied Directing at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.
With his short films, Tim Ellrich already attracted international attention and won several notable awards like the Prize of the Jury at the International Short Film Festival Clermont-Ferrand with his short “Die Badewanne”. In 2020, he directed and shot the feature documentary “Mein Vietnam” about a Vietnamese couple living in Germany which won the First Steps Award in 2021 and got nationwide media coverage.
Afterwards Tim Ellrich returned to fiction films and wrote and directed his first feature film “Im Haus meiner Eltern” which will premiere in the prestigious Tiger Awards Competition of the International Filmfestival Rotterdam and will be released in German cinemas in spring 2025. “Im Haus meiner Eltern” is a fictionalised story about a family dealing with a schizophrenic family member. Ellrich based the film on his mother's relationship with her family and her schizophrenic brother in his last living days.
In 2023, Tim Ellrich received the Wim Wenders scholarship for his new feature film “Uncanny Valley” about a family meeting the actors who will play them in the upcoming film of their daughter.
In his work, Ellrich focuses on making often overlooked stories and people visible and lending humanity and attention to the seemingly ordinary. As a writer, he has the quality to mix humour with profound, thought-provoking themes. He lives and works in Berlin.
