Sebastian Wehlings studied cultural studies, history, and politics at Berlin's Humboldt University before working as a journalist for the Süddeutsche Zeitung and as an editor for Jetzt magazine.
In 2003, together with Peer Klehmet, he wrote his first screenplay, “Kleinruppin Forever.” Wehlings has since enjoyed a successful collaboration with Klehmet and the production company SamFilm for many years, leading to films such as “Sommer,” “Gangs,” and “Rock It.” They also created four films in the series “5 Freunde,” adapted from Enid Blyton, which are always among the most popular movies of the year.
Together with Christian Lyra, with whom he still works today, Wehlings conceived and wrote three seasons of the series “Add a Friend,” the first in-house production of the pay TV channel TNT. For this series concept and writing, Wehlings and Lyra received the Grimme Award and the Bavarian Screenplay Award.
Building upon further cinematic successes, such as Matthias Schweighöfer's “Vaterfreuden,” Wehlings’ film “Lindenberg! Mach Dein Ding” received much attention and was nominated for the German Film Award in 2020, among others.
In addition to his work as a screenwriter, Sebastian Wehlings writes song lyrics for artists such as Udo Lindenberg, Eagle-Eye Cherry, and Adel Tawil, and has contributed to many number-one hits.
